The Interim Provisions on the Supervision and Management of Major Hazard Sources of Hazardous Chemicals (**Order No. 40 of the State Administration for Work Safety**) require that \"major hazard sources of Class 1 or Class 2 be equipped with emergency shutdown systems,\" and that \"major hazard sources of Class 1 or Class 2 involving toxic gases, liquefied gases, or highly toxic liquids be equipped with independent safety instrumented systems.\" What is the definition of toxic gases in this standard, and is it consistent with the subsequent GBT 50493-2019 \"Design Standards for Detection and Alarm Systems of Flammable and Toxic Gases in Petrochemical Industries\"? According to GB/T50493-2019 and its related interpretations, toxic media refer to 1. the highly toxic chemicals listed in the 2015 version of the Catalogue of Hazardous Chemicals, and 2. those hazardous chemicals with acute toxicity classified as Category 1 or Category 2 in the Table of Hazardous Chemical Classification Information (2015). It is basically consistent with the requirements specified in GB 30000.18-2013, Specifications for the classification and labeling of chemicals – Part 18: Acute toxicity. 3. Gases or vapors listed in the “Catalogue of Highly Toxic Substances” (Wei Fa Jian Fa [2003] No. 142).
