Why is the storage of potassium permanganate classified as Category A, while potassium permanganate production facilities are classified as Category B? ? ?
It’s probably due to factors such as large storage volumes, long storage periods, and strong oxidizing properties
Class A refers to substances with the highest level of danger, while Class B is the next in terms of danger. Potassium permanganate is extremely dangerous when stored, as it can cause violent reactions and explosions; therefore, it is classified as Category A. In the production process of potassium permanganate, if appropriate control measures and safety precautions are taken, its hazard level is relatively low; therefore, the factory can be classified as Category B. .
Since the poster itself said it’s potassium permanganate, which is that strong, it certainly belongs to Category A
I’m still a bit confused. After all, potassium permanganate does indeed have strong oxidizing properties and is classified as Category A. If the amount used is small, it’s possible to lower its classification according to the building codes; yet those codes still classify it as a Category B workshop. I’ve never encountered such a strange substance before – for other substances in Category A, they are simply classified as Category A workshops
The materials are definitely of Category A, but according to the appendices in the building codes, potassium permanganate production facilities are classified as Category B workshops
The factory building is where the final product, potassium permanganate, is produced; once it’s manufactured, it is taken away immediately. There is no accumulation of large quantities of this substance, nor is it stored for long periods of time, so oxidation reactions with other substances do not occur. This is my personal understanding.
Is it because the production process poses little hazard and the finished products are transported, which is why it is classified as Class B workshop? And the hazard of storage increases, so Category A
During economic downturns, many companies hold back goods and wait to sell them when prices rise. A large accumulation at this time can easily lead to problems. During the production of potassium permanganate, only the section where the final product is produced is involved in significant amounts of Category A substances; the overall amount in the workshop does not reach the standards for Category A. Furthermore, when conducting HAZOP and LOPA analyses, safety issues during production are taken into account, and corresponding preventive measures are implemented. However, storage facilities may only be designed for fire protection and fire separation distances, without additional safeguards.
