The hydrogenation level of the produced product was over 99%, marking a success in Sinopec’s development of HNBR technology, and indicating that this industrial plant has now entered full production mode. Hydrogenated nitrile rubber possesses excellent heat resistance, oxidation resistance, and chemical stability, making it an essential material in fields such as aerospace, oil extraction, and transportation. The Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Industry, under Sinopec, has been working in the field of hydrogenated nitrile rubber for nearly a decade, overcoming numerous key technical challenges related to raw materials, catalysts, synthesis, and application, and developing advanced pilot-scale and laboratory-scale technologies for this type of rubber. The industrialization technology for hydrogenated nitrile was designated as a key scientific and technological project by Sinopec in 2020. Units such as Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Technology, Qilu Petrochemical, and SEI worked together; from the start of construction and production preparation to the trial operation with actual materials, it took 188 days to produce qualified products, thus successfully completing the objectives of this project.
On December 5, 20024, a grand commissioning ceremony was held for the 1,000-ton/year hydrogenated nitrile rubber production facility of Landa Company, which is part of Zhonglu Group under CNPC Lanzhou Petrochemical Industry; this marked positive progress in the advancement of the project. According to Inner Mongolia Chemical Industry, the total investment in this project is 128.1483 million yuan, and it is located within the premises of the Rubber Operations Department of Lanzhou Petrochemical Company in Xigu District, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. The project uses nitrile latex and hydrogen as raw materials to produce hydrogenated nitrile rubber products. The project is specifically constructed and operated by Landa Company of Zhonglu Group. It represents a major initiative for Lanzhou Petrochemical Company to achieve high-quality development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, with the goal of becoming a leader in the production of nitrile rubber through the development of new forms of productive capacity. It is also a significant project undertaken by Zhonglu Group to strengthen its industrial chains, enhance its value creation capabilities. Lanzhou Zhonglu Chemical Group Co., Ltd. was registered and established in March 2021. The shareholders are Lanzhou Xiguan Industry-City Integration Development Co., Ltd. (holding 51% of the shares) and China National Petroleum Corporation Lanzhou Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (holding 49% of the shares). Its main business activities include the production of refining and chemical industry additives, rubber and plastic additives, petroleum resins, petroleum solvents, chemical raw materials, plastic products, as well as engineering construction and maintenance services in the petrochemical industry. Zhonglu Group was established taking the reform of the former diversified business department of Lanzhou Petrochemical Company as an opportunity; it established a property rights link with the Xigu District Government. In line with the reform and development goals of integrating industry with finance and industry with the urban area, some shares of the former diversified business department of Lanzhou Petrochemical Company were transferred to the Xigu District Government.
