Recently, the review meeting for the SAP unit process package of the Phase 1 of Yulin Chemical’s Phase II project was successfully held in Germany. The head of the company’s new materials department led a team to attend the meeting, and together with the project team from patent holder Lummus and relevant engineers from design institutes, they participated in this review of the key technology. Since there is no existing experience in building similar facilities using this technology, the review process must ensure technological innovation while also taking into account the practical feasibility of implementing it in actual projects, which makes it an extremely challenging task. To this end, the project team established a cross-disciplinary technical task force in advance, systematically reviewed technical literature and industry cases from home and abroad, and developed a list of specific recommendations. At the meeting, the Lummus project team provided a detailed presentation on the process package, emphasizing the advantages of high conversion rates and low energy consumption in this process. In accordance with industry standards such as the \"Code for Design Management of Petrochemical Process Packages\" and the \"Guidelines for Process Safety Design of Petrochemical Plants\", the participants conducted in-depth reviews and systematic discussions on key aspects including process flows, equipment and instruments, as well as instrument interlock logic. They identified issues one by one and formulated targeted corrective measures. After the review meeting, the participants visited Lummus Company’s SAP specialized laboratory. Technical experts from both sides had in-depth discussions on topics such as the prevention and control of potential risks associated with the operation of the equipment, as well as the simulation of special operating conditions, providing strong support for subsequent process optimization. The 15 million tons per year demonstration project for the clean and efficient conversion of coal into various products by Shaanxi Coal Group Yulin Chemical Co., Ltd. is currently the coal chemical project with the largest single-investment amount. The total investment in the chemical manufacturing facilities amounts to 176 billion yuan. Building on the first phase of the project, this initiative relies on coal pyrolysis, coal tar hydrogenation, and pulverized coke gasification technologies as key elements. By integrating these technologies along with downstream processing methods, it aims to further expand and extend the industrial chain, and to explore new pathways for the combined development of coal-based olefins and coal-based aromatics. The end product will be a range of chemical substances such as polyolefins, polyesters, polycarbonates, polyether polyols, EVA, POE, SAP, DMC, DEC, EMC, and EC. It is estimated that the annual sales revenue will exceed 90 billion yuan. The first phase of the second stage of the 15 million tons per year demonstration project for the clean and efficient conversion of coal into various products by Shaanxi Coal Group Yulin Chemical Co., Ltd. covers an area of approximately 9,200 mu, with an estimated total investment of around 62 billion yuan. Upon completion of the project, it is expected to generate annual sales revenue of 20.7 billion yuan and after-tax profits of 3.3 billion yuan. This project was included in the **13th Five-Year Plan for Energy Development** and the **13th Five-Year Plan for Demonstration Projects in Advanced Coal Processing**, and is to be constructed in two phases. Phase 1 has already seen the construction of an ethylene glycol plant with a capacity of 1.8 million tons per year and a coal pyrolysis plant with a capacity of 1.2 million tons per year; a DMC plant with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year is currently under construction ; The second phase of the plan involves the construction of facilities for the production of olefins, aromatics, and products derived from their further processing. By making efficient use of coal through careful sorting and classification, this project will produce key industrial products such as olefins, aromatics, and base oils. Further processing will then enable the production of four categories of end products with high added value: materials for use in batteries, solvents for battery electrolytes, biodegradable materials, and special types of oils, thereby achieving coordinated development between coal chemical industry and petroleum chemical industry. The second phase of the 15 million tons per year demonstration project for the clean and efficient conversion of coal into various products by Shaanxi Coal Group Yulin Chemical Co., Ltd. will build upon the infrastructure established in the first phase to further extend the industrial chain. Following a strategy focused on high-end development, diversification, and low carbon emissions, this project aims to produce more than 30 different end products across four main categories: high-value materials, battery electrolyte solvents, biodegradable materials, and special oils. The second-phase project is constructed in two stages; the first stage focuses on the construction of gasification, methanol synthesis, methanol-to-olefins, and related downstream olefin processing units ; In the second phase, facilities for coal pyrolysis, tar hydrogenation, arene coupling, biodegradable materials, and battery electrolytes will be primarily constructed.
