As the title suggests, the diagram shows that the outlet pipe from the reboiler and the inlet pipe to the reboiler are two separate pipes. However, there is a connecting pipe between them that doesn’t have any valves; its diameter is the same as that of the reboiler’s inlet pipe. What is the function of this pipe? Is it to control the flow rate of the reboiler feed line?
This connecting pipe is usually referred to as a balance pipe or bypass pipe. Its main function is to establish a material flow path between the reboiler outlet pipe and the reboiler inlet pipe of the distillation tower. Due to the absence of valves, this design can be used to balance the pressure on both sides and ensure stable material flow. The drawings are confidential; since they are relatively simple, a written description is provided: there are two pipes at the tower’s discharge point – one for product discharge and another for feeding into the reboiler. There is also a pipe connecting these two pipes, and its diameter is the same as that of the pipe leading to the reboiler
