【Common Issues in Haichuan Pipeline Design】Failing to implement rain and bird protection measures for vent pipes can pose many safety hazards

During the design, installation, and inspection of pipelines, various minor issues that have been overlooked or not taken into consideration are often identified. National standard specifications: “Safety Regulations for Gas in Industrial Enterprises” (GB 6222-2005) and “Design Specifications for Gas Storage and Distribution Systems in Iron and Steel Enterprises” (GB 51128-2015). Relevant provisions: Article 7.3.1.3 of the “Safety Regulations for Gas in Industrial Enterprises” (GB 6222-2005): The gas release outlets shall be equipped with measures to prevent rain ingress and blockages. Article 8.1.15 of the \"Design Code for Gas Storage and Distribution Systems in Iron and Steel Enterprises\" (GB 51128-2015): Gas vent pipes shall be equipped with rain caps and anti-clogging devices, and a sewage valve or sewage outlet shall be provided at the bottom of the vent pipes. 5 Preventive measures: Install rain protection devices – place umbrella-shaped or cone-shaped rain caps on top of the vent pipes (use 304 stainless steel to prevent corrosion); the edges of these rain caps should extend at least 100 mm beyond the diameter of the pipe opening, thereby preventing rainwater from dripping into the pipe. Add drainage and anti-freezing measures: Install a DN25 drain valve at the bottom of the vent pipe to drain water regularly on a weekly basis ； In cold winter regions, a heating tape is wrapped around the outer wall of the exhaust pipe (to maintain the temperature inside the pipe at >5°C) to prevent water accumulation from freezing and causing blockages. Regular inspection and maintenance: Check the integrity of the rain cover and the functionality of the drain valve on a monthly basis; inspect the wall thickness of the vent pipe every quarter. Replace any components that show signs of corrosion or damage promptly to ensure effective protection against rain and blockages.
