Our company uses solid sodium hydroxide, which is added manually and melted in a tank. Manual addition of this substance poses risks and can harm health. I was wondering if there are safer methods; if we cannot switch to liquid caustic, could we use tablet form of caustic soda instead?
With proper protection, there should be no problem. If the risk seems high, switch to alkali solution if financially feasible.
Just add a set of conveying machinery for modification
Set up a feeding box for automatic belt feeding, okay?
Add a stirrer to control the feeding speed.
Caustic soda is highly corrosive, so manual feeding is indeed not practical; the corrosion caused by dust sticking to the skin is particularly painful. If necessary, use a conveyor belt for transportation, and ensure good ventilation at the area where the bags are opened. Or fully automated.
Put on the protective gear, use a screw conveyor system, and manually feed the material into the hopper; with care, there should be no problems. Our company has done this kind of work before
Negative pressure ventilation is still the best choice – it’s safe and convenient. Other methods are likely to be superfluous, wasting time and money.
