Assuming the composition of the material in the distillation column’s reflux drum is unsatisfactory, will adjusting the reflux rate or lowering the reflux temperature not result in the composition of the vapor at the top of the column meeting the required standards? My understanding is that when the components in the reflux tank are not up to standard, and phase equilibrium is reached between the vapor phase at the top of the tower and the reflux liquid phase, since the reflux liquid phase at the top of the tower is not satisfactory, the components in the vapor phase will also not be satisfactory. Can it be explained this way?

It seems like you’re thinking of it in a rather complex way. If the product doesn’t meet the standards, it’s because there are too many heavy components present; increasing the reflux ratio will help to remove those heavy components
As long as the full reflux is satisfactory and the temperature of the sensitive plate is within acceptable limits during normal operation, the product at the top of the tower should be of good quality.
