I am a member of the distillation workshop. The workshop produces isopropyl alcohol and uses benzene addition and ternary azeotropic method to remove moisture from the raw materials. However, there is an oil-water separator in the workshop that cannot work properly (the liquid level gauge has no liquid level display). The design drawings are attached. The design volume of the oil-water separator is 30L, and the steam flow rate at the top of the tower is about 350m3/h. Please help explain why the oil-water separator is not working properly and provide a solution. Thank you!

The upper end of the liquid level gauge is probably not in the liquid, so the liquid level interface displayed is incorrect.

Is there not enough separation time?
First of all, is this water separator newly installed or is it already there? If it is not working properly, why is it abnormal? Is there water in the overflow or benzene at the bottom? These situations are unclear and difficult to analyze.

The design of the oil-water separator is unreasonable and the separation effect is very poor. A fully automatic oil-water separator can be used. In addition, when the load at the top of the tower increases, the overflow pipe will not have time to flow out, and the liquid level in the separator will rise above the liquid level gauge. How can it be seen?
The liquid level cannot go up, the liquid level cannot be displayed, and there is water at the bottom. The benzene is returned to the kettle from port D for recycling.
