Recently, I came across a diagram of a water-sealing tank online; the tip of the pipe through which exhaust gas enters the water is shaped like serrations. I would like to know what the principle behind this is There is also a perforated plate installed above the liquid level in that water seal tank; I’m not sure what its purpose is I would be very grateful for some advice from those who are more experienced.
Are there just serrations on the edge of the pipe? Are there any measures for the pipeline axis? If there are only serrations on the edges, it can be preliminarily assumed that this structure may facilitate the dispersion of gas in all directions (it’s just a feeling); if CFD simulations are conducted, the difference should be able to be determined.

The serrations serve two purposes: one is to facilitate gas diffusion, and the other is to act as a gas distributor, allowing the gas to disperse evenly at the pipe outlet. The function of the perforated plate is also to ensure even gas distribution.

The serrated design is intended to break up the large air bubbles that enter the liquid, turning them into smaller bubbles; large air bubbles can cause severe bubbling in the liquid. As shown in the image, this is the structure of the sealing tank in front of our company’s flare.
Ensure even distribution of the gas within the tank to prevent pulsating air flow in downstream devices due to fluctuations in the sealing water
