Assume that a factory complex has 5 units, with the maximum water consumption for each unit being as follows: 1. 40, 2. 50, 3. 60, 4. 80, 5. 150. Then what should be taken as the maximum water consumption for this factory complex? 150? Is it still 150+80+60+50+40? If it is the latter, the total adds up to more than the designed capacity of the plant. The normal water usage is clear to me; it’s the maximum water usage that I don’t understand. The maximum water consumption refers to the amount of water used when the device is operating at full capacity or in other abnormal conditions; normal operation usually does not result in such high water usage. Therefore, it is neither practical nor economical to determine the entire plant’s water supply based on the maximum water consumption of all devices. Personally, I think it should be calculated at 80% of the maximum water consumption per device. When water is scarce, priority is given to ensuring the proper operation of critical systems, while less important devices can have their operations reduced. Additionally, a backup pump should be available for emergency use.
If simultaneous use is possible, the maximum water consumption amounts are all added together. If it is not working, reduce it according to the situation.
When calculating the maximum hourly water consumption for continuous use of fresh water in industrial enterprises, it is advisable to analyze the probability of the maximum hourly water consumption from various water-using equipment or points occurring at the same time, so as to determine the value of “k”; When calculating the hourly water consumption for intermittent use of fresh water in industrial enterprises, it is appropriate to conduct a necessary analysis of the characteristics of water use under different levels of intermittent consumption, and select a more reasonable calculation method so that the resulting water consumption figure meets both the operational requirements and represents an economical level of water use
In my understanding, considering the upper limit of operational flexibility, the maximum amount for a single unit combined with the normal amounts for the other units is determined by using various combinations, with the highest value being selected. If it can be predicted that multiple units will reach their maximum capacity at the same time, then it would be unreasonable to use those maximum amounts along with the normal amounts of the remaining units; in short, it’s not practical to assume that all units will reach their maximum capacity, and such a situation hardly ever occurs in reality.
