What is the purpose of a cold-cycle in a catalytic reforming regenerator?
When the cyclic hydrogen compressor shuts down, it is necessary to prevent an excessive sudden temperature drop of the catalyst and the reactor; a large temperature drop in the catalyst can cause thermal stress that damages the catalyst. After removing some of the catalyst, it should be raised to a cooler temperature so that both the catalyst and the heat can circulate together, thereby avoiding damage to the catalyst and the internal components of the regenerator.
