When used as city gas, naphthalene and H2S also need to be removed. Is H2S corrosive? Will naphthalene clog it?
Primarily, coke oven gas consists of hydrogen and CO; most of it is reused as fuel. Naphthalene in coke oven gas has a high freezing point and is toxic, while H2S is corrosive in its wet form, causing severe damage to subsequent processing equipment and pipelines. Additionally, the combustion of H2S produces SO2, and both SO2 and naphthalene must be emitted at levels that meet regulatory standards; therefore, treatment is necessary.
Naphthalene removal prevents its deposition in subsequent pipeline equipment, while H2S removal ensures that sulfur emissions from the fuel meet the specified standards.
