The helium purification project at Tianjin General Electric Company came online on December 17, 2024. Recently, the helium purification project for Tianjin General Electric Medical Systems (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “GE Company”), which was constructed under EPC supervision by Sinochem Southwest Chemical Research and Design Institute (hereinafter referred to as “Sinochem Southwest Institute”), was officially put into operation. It has an annual processing capacity of 4.2 million standard cubic meters of helium, with the purity of the helium product reaching 6N level. This solution meets GE Company’s urgent need for high-quality helium, thereby enhancing its competitiveness in the global medical imaging equipment market. This project utilizes adsorbents specifically developed by Sinochem Southwest Research Institute for the low-temperature adsorption purification of helium, along with a complete set of related process technologies (patent number: ZL202111317677.4). Compared with similar technologies available domestically and internationally, this technology does not require heating during the regeneration process; it features stable product quality, low energy consumption, and a high yield of helium. As an extremely scarce and non-renewable resource, helium plays a vital role in various key fields such as medicine, research, and industry. Sinochem Southwest Research Institute boasts outstanding technical expertise and performance in the field of low-temperature helium extraction in China. Recently, it won the bid for the largest helium purification project in the country to date: two sets of low-temperature adsorption purification units with a capacity of 520 cubic meters per hour each, to be installed at CNPC’s Changqing Oilfield. Once completed, these units are expected to generate an annual output value of over 1 billion yuan, contributing to the high-quality development of China’s helium industry.
