10 MW molten salt tower solar thermal power plant, with a heat storage time of 15 hours. The designed flow rate for the cold molten salt pump is 160 Kg/s (approximately 320 M3/h), while the designed flow rate for the hot molten salt pump is 80 Kg/s (approximately 160 M3/h). The capacity of the hot molten salt storage tank is 2800 M3. If we calculate based on the difference in flow rates between the two pumps, it would take 2800 / (320 – 160) = 17.5 hours to fill the tank with hot molten salt during the day, which is not feasible. I’m not sure where I went wrong; please advise me, experts!

It is recommended that you consult professional manufacturers of molten salt pumps for this issue. As far as I know, Fox has extensive experience in this field; I hope this can help you
1. Please check the number of molten salt pumps; there is usually not just one molten salt pump on the molten salt storage tank. 2. The time required to fill it up is not determined by the flow rate difference; the filling of the hot salt tank takes place while the cold salt pump is in operation, whereas the hot salt pump is connected to the heat exchange system. Take a look at the PID values – they are located in different pipeline systems.
