The flow rate of circulating cooling water required for centrifugal chillers is not equivalent to the cooling capacity calculated in HVAC design. The concepts of these two are different; the specifics are as follows: – The cooling capacity calculated in HVAC refers to the amount of cooling provided by the chiller unit to the load side (such as the low-temperature water system in clean areas). - The cooling water of the chiller unit (the heat dissipation side) is used to discharge the condensation heat into the environment, and its total heat amount is roughly equal to the cooling capacity plus the energy consumed during the compression process (electric power converted into heat). Therefore, the heat carried by the cooling water is generally higher than the cooling capacity. Typical estimation method: Cooling water heat load ≈ Cooling capacity + Compressor power consumption. As a guideline, the amount of cooling water required is approximately 1.2 to 1.3 times the cooling capacity. Therefore, the two are not the same; the actual design should be determined based on the parameters in the manufacturer’s specifications for the chiller unit. .
