There are liquids without a flash point, but with an ignition temperature – how is that possible? When checking MSDS documents, it is common to find that some liquids do not have a flash point listed, but rather an ignition temperature; this indicates that they are flammable. But does every flammable liquid necessarily have a flash point? Can’t these substances with no flash point be detected using existing technology, or what? According to the Code for Fire Protection Design of Buildings, a liquid with a fire hazard classification of Class C is defined as: “a liquid with a flash point of not less than 60°C” ; And \"combustible solids\" – so what about those liquids that have a ignition temperature but no flash point? How to characterize it?
Flash point, a concept in electrical engineering, refers to the temperature of a fuel at which, when heated in a container of specified design, volatile flammable gases are released and mix with the air near the liquid surface; at such a concentration, these gases can be ignited by a spark. Flash point determination methods are divided into open cup and closed cup types. Generally, the closed-cup method is used for light oils. The open cup method is commonly used for heavy oils. The flash point is an indicator for ensuring safety; the temperature of the oil during preheating must not reach the flash point, and it should generally not exceed 2/3 of the flash point
GB/T5332—2007 specifies the method for determining the ignition temperature (auto-ignition temperature) of chemically pure flammable liquid vapors and gases in air at normal pressure.
