During the detailed engineering design phase, I saw that the calculations related to safety valves were indicated in the foundation engineering design documents; why couldn’t those calculations be done in the previous phase? Is it reasonable for me to ask the foundation engineering designers about the requirement of “discharge volume”? According to GB150, I’m not able to calculate the leakage rate in some cases!
In accordance with Article 3.1 of SHSG-033-2008 \"Requirements for the Design Content of Foundations for Petrochemical Plants\", the design documents for the foundations of the process section shall include the basis for process design, process descriptions, boundary condition tables, pipe lists, process equipment lists, PFDs, utility flow diagrams (UFDs), PID diagrams, data sheets for process equipment, as well as data sheets or specifications for safety valves and burst discs, along with summary tables. During the basic design process, the safety valve data sheet should include information on operating and selection conditions, model selection, materials, and accessories. In the past, when we carried out the preliminary design, we would calculate the discharge capacity of the safety valves.
There is no significant difference between the basic design and the detailed design of a process; once the main processes and material flows are determined, the detailed design simply involves adding additional utility pipelines and similar elements. The process conditions under which the safety valve operates are also fixed, so it is necessary to specify the discharge volume. However, some safety valves related to skid-mounted equipment may be determined based on certain conditions of that equipment. Utility systems can also have their discharge volumes determined during the construction drawings phase.
