For Type 2 heat exchangers, regarding the material requirements for the baffles in the shell side at a ratio of 5/12, is Q235B acceptable?
The material requirements for baffle plates are mainly related to the properties of the fluid in the shell side. I’m not sure what the original poster is asking about
According to GB150, the temperature range for Q235B is 20–300 degrees Celsius. The temperatures of the water entering and leaving the shell side of the heat exchanger are currently 5/12 degrees Celsius, which is below the temperature range suitable for Q235B. I’m not sure whether it’s still possible to use this material. I would appreciate it if experts could provide some guidance
GB150-2011 specifies the material selection for pressure-bearing components, and Q235B has been excluded from this list; since baffles are not pressure-bearing components, they are not required to comply with the material selection rules outlined in GB150-2011.
The baffle is not a primary pressure-bearing component; it’s not even at low temperatures. There’s no need to rush – what’s the big deal? It’s not like we’re competing to get eggs
