Among industrial chiller brands, when the temperature of the circulating water is relatively low, Guanya uses antifreeze fluids. Ethylene glycol mixed with water is undoubtedly the most commonly used fluid for circulation. So, how do different industrial chiller brands choose such antifreeze fluids? Generally speaking, industrial chiller brands still require antifreeze that possesses good anti-freezing properties, as well as corrosion and rust resistance; it should not cause swelling or erosion of rubber-sealed ducts, have a low viscosity at low temperatures, and exhibit stable chemical properties. So, what are the common antifreeze types? In fact, there are many types of antifreeze available from different brands of industrial chillers. Wuxi Guanya has compiled a list of the common types of antifreeze used; these include inorganic substances such as calcium chloride and sodium chloride, as well as organic substances like methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerin, and diethylene glycol. By adding an appropriate amount of pure soft water to these liquids, an antifreeze can be created in the traditional sense. It should be noted that antifreeze solutions such as sodium chloride used in industrial chillers are highly corrosive; methanol and ethanol are volatile, propylene glycol and diethylene glycol have moderate viscosity but are relatively expensive. Glycerin is not costly but has very high viscosity, while ethylene glycol is inexpensive and has moderate viscosity as well, though it is slightly toxic. The antifreeze commonly used in industrial chillers is undoubtedly ethylene glycol-based antifreeze; its freezing point changes depending on the concentration of ethylene glycol in the aqueous solution, and its volume also varies accordingly. The selection principles for propylene glycol-based antifreeze are the same as those for ethylene glycol-based antifreeze – it’s not true that a higher concentration yields better antifreezing effects; rather, the appropriate concentration must be determined based on the specific operating conditions. When using ethanol-based antifreeze, it should be noted that it can be mixed with water in any proportion to create antifreezes with different freezing points; the higher the ethanol content, the lower the freezing point. Ethanol is a flammable substance; when its concentration in antifreeze exceeds 40%, alcohol vapor can easily be generated, leading to a fire. When using industrial chiller brands, it is important to keep in mind that the higher the concentration of antifreeze, the greater the corrosion it causes to the mechanical seal materials of the water pump. Additionally, its viscosity increases, which in turn raises the load on the water pump motor; in some cases, this can lead to overload and damage of the motor. Therefore, while ensuring the antifreeze properties required by industrial chiller brands, the lower the concentration of the antifreeze, the better. Of course, when choosing an antifreeze, the specific application environment also needs to be taken into consideration. It is important to note that antifreeze from different brands of industrial chiller units should not be mixed, to avoid chemical reactions that could harm production as well as equipment failures.
