Seeking help: Installation of steam traps according to HG/T20570.21 – 5.0.3.6 specifies that a return water connection should be installed at the lowest point of the steam pipeline, so as to draw up the condensed water using this connection. How does this return water connector manage to draw up the condensate water? What is the principle behind it?

This is a liquid seal; when it first starts operating, the air and steam between the liquid seal and the trap are definitely pushed out by the pressure from ahead. Once the area behind the liquid seal and the trap is filled with water, due to the effect of the liquid seal at the bottom, this column of liquid will no longer drop. The function of this liquid seal is to prevent steam from rising up the vertical pipe behind it, thereby avoiding obstruction to the proper drainage of condensate water.
If it is the effect of a liquid seal, the steam trap can be omitted after it is put into use. But the standard states that \"the condensate is drawn up by the action of the return water connector\"”
The last edit to this post was made by ylb913 on 2018-7-18 at 20:00. The statement “The condensed water is drawn up thanks to the function of the return fitting” means that with this water seal, there is no air resistance. In other words, if there is air resistance, it’s impossible to inhale.
