In many cases, shell-and-tube coolers are referred to as surface condensers. From a process perspective, how can we understand the origin of this name?

Is it another type called a steam generator?
Should it be understood that the so-called “surface heat transfer” is equivalent to “heat transfer through a partition”? I don’t think surface heat transfer has been mentioned; the books seem to talk about “mixed heat transfer” and “wall-mounted heat transfer”, right? Read some books; I recommend the basic book \"Principles of Chemical Engineering\".
Condensing steam turbines have a surface condenser at their outlet; this is something I learned from foreigners – it’s commonly referred to as a shell-and-tube condenser
The condenser installed at the last stage of the turbine is used to cool the waste steam, and circulating water is generally used as the cooling medium.
This is the common term for the condenser associated with the final evaporator in the multi-effect evaporation process.
