I remember that some carbon canister designs have built-in provisions for this purpose, and the backwashing of the activated carbon is also limited; the flow rate seems to be related to the area available. If there is sufficient space, then throttling should not be necessary. Because backwashing serves a very important purpose, which is to wash away the activated carbon and carbon particles that have become damaged as a result of the process conditions. If you prevent this from happening, you waste this beneficial effect; as a result, the pressure difference inside the carbon canister increases, which affects the lifespan of the activated carbon. It’s best for you to consult your supplier; they should be able to give you sound advice.
