The degassing filter for oil storage tanks is a peripheral device for liquid flow meters. When using positive displacement flow meters to measure the flow rate of liquids, if gas is present in the liquid, both the liquid and the gas mixed within it are measured; as a result, even though the flow meter itself has high precision, it loses its significance. Therefore, it is necessary to find a way to remove the gases mixed into the liquid being measured before it enters the flow meter. A degassing filter functions to separate and remove gases contained in liquids, as well as to filter out impurity particles present in the liquid being measured, thereby ensuring the proper operation of the flow meter and its measurement accuracy. I. Structure and Working Principle of the Gas-removing Filter in Oil Depots 1. Structure The housing of the gas-removing filter is constructed using welded steel plates; a float valve is installed at the top of the container. This float valve consists of a float, a float linkage, a valve body, a valve core, and a valve seat. The inner cavity is equipped with a filter element to remove impurities. 2. Working principle: When the refined oil enters the degassing filter, the filter mesh removes solid impurities. As the oil enters the chamber of the degassing filter through the inlet, it hits the baffle, resulting in a pressure loss and a change in the direction of the liquid flow. The liquid flows upward and passes through the oil-scattering plate, allowing the free gases and some decomposed gases in the oil to escape initially. The oil continues to rise; the flow is then divided by the partition, further separating the oil from the gas. The gas rises to the top, creating a gas phase space. As this gas space expands, the oil-gas interface drops. When it reaches a certain height, the float valve activates and releases the gas. As the gas is expelled, the oil-gas interface rises, causing the float valve to close. This repeated process achieves the purpose of separation. II. Installation and Use of Air Elimination Filters 1. When using an air elimination filter in a pipeline, it should be installed in the order of air eliminator—liquid flow meter—valve, making sure that the inlet and outlet directions of the liquid correspond to the direction of the arrows. 2. The pipelines must be thoroughly cleaned of residues and debris before installation. A straight pipe section as long as possible should be installed before the filter degasser, so that the liquid can enter it more smoothly. 3. When the gas outlet is exposed to the atmosphere, a gas collection tank should be installed to prevent the discharged gas from contaminating the air and causing accidents. 4. Pressure gauges should be installed on the inlet and outlet sides of the filter degasser; the filter screen should be cleaned when the pressure loss exceeds 0.07 MPa. 5. When starting to use the metering system, the valve should be opened slowly to allow the liquid being measured to flow into the filter degasser gradually, thereby preventing the liquid from overflowing from the exhaust port of the float valve.
