Is there any standard specifying that control valves or instruments such as flow meters must be equipped with bypasses or valve assemblies?
No requirements. It is usually added, but it isn’t necessary in important places. In cases where process parameters are severely affected and the system must be shut down in case of abnormalities, there is no need for a bypass.
There is no mandatory requirement; only recommended valve bank designs exist. In general, bypass systems are designed in low-pressure areas to ensure continuous operation, but they are not used in high-pressure areas or in equipment that operates intermittently. However, this also depends on the communication between the client and the design firm
Flow meters are generally not equipped with this feature, unless maintenance is frequent; control valves are better fitted with it. I can do without it, but I need to ask the manufacturer to add a manual function
It is possible to choose not to use cross-connections, but if a problem occurs, the entire pipeline will become unusable. Work may even come to a halt
Bypasses are added for ease of maintenance
Flow meters rarely have bypasses, especially in situations involving trade measurement; installing a bypass can also lead to unnecessary trade disputes and other issues
