In the 18 hazardous chemical processes, a chlorination reaction is defined as a reaction in which chlorine atoms are introduced into the molecules of compounds. Processes that involve chlorination reactions are referred to as chlorination processes, and these mainly include substitution chlorination, addition chlorination, and oxychlorination. Methanol and hydrogen chloride produce chloromethane and water under the action of a catalyst; is this reaction considered a chlorination reaction? If it belongs, then what type of chlorination is it – substitution chlorination or oxychlorination?
