On many drawings these days, the mating flanges for equipment ports are classified under piping materials; if not indicated clearly, it’s certain that mistakes will be made in purchasing them. With the device’s mating flange attached to it, this problem no longer exists.

I disagree with this view. The matching flanges supplied with the equipment may not be able to be welded to the pipes without any differences in diameter or wall thickness. The best approach is to clearly specify the standards, specifications, and pressure ratings for the equipment flanges, so that they are consistent with those of the pipeline flanges. There can be a grade boundary between the equipment and the pipeline connection flanges, but their flange standards and pressure grades must be identical. The purpose of the distinction should mainly lie in the difference in materials.
It definitely needs to be distinguished. Our previous practice was to specify the standard number in the pipe connection details sheet when purchasing equipment! It is generally specified in accordance with the pipe flange standards HG/T20592~20615!
