Silicon carbide is widely used in casting and steelmaking; especially in steelmaking, steel takes advantage of silicon carbide’s corrosion resistance, heat shock resistance, wear resistance, and good thermal conductivity to improve the service life of the linings in large blast furnaces. Silicon carbide has four main application areas, namely: functional ceramics, advanced refractory materials, abrasives, and metallurgical raw materials. Crude silicon carbide is already available in large quantities; it cannot be considered a high-tech product. Moreover, it is not possible to achieve economies of scale in the short term for the use of nanoscale silicon carbide powder, which has a very high level of technical complexity. Silicon carbide ball deoxidizers are particularly suitable for increasing silicon levels and achieving excellent deoxidation effects in steel ladles; they represent the best supplementary agents for silicon and deoxidation purposes in cast iron/cast steel production. They offer better performance than deoxidizers with conventional particle sizes, are more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. In metallurgical and casting processes, they can completely replace ferrosilicon, thereby **reducing the costs of cast steel production and improving corporate profitability**.
