May I ask that if superheated steam is used, at 0.3 Mpa and 200°C, in Condition 1: heating water through a heat exchanger?; Condition 2: Direct injection into water to heat it up. What are the advantages and disadvantages compared to using saturated steam at around 150°C and 0.3 Mpa for heating?
The heat exchanger is stable; adding water directly saves steam
One belongs to partitioned heat exchange, and the other also belongs to partitioned heat exchange. In the former case, mass transfer occurs, that is, there is transfer of substances; in such a situation, the heat utilization efficiency may be high and the equipment can be simple. The latter belongs to the category of heat exchangers, and its thermal efficiency is lower than that of the former.
When water is heated through a heat exchanger, superheated steam first consumes sensible heat and then latent heat.

The effect of Condition 1 is much worse than that of Condition 2; superheated steam yields a poorer heating effect compared to saturated steam, as the heat in steam comes mainly from latent heat, and it is more difficult for superheated steam to release this latent heat. At a pressure of 0.3 Mpa (gauge pressure), the temperature is around 140°C, falling short of 150°C. When heat transfer occurs across a partition, the temperature of the condensed steam is relatively high. If the heat exchange area is insufficient, the amount of steam that can be introduced is inadequate, making it difficult to achieve the desired heating effect
The former requires a slightly higher initial investment in terms of heat exchangers, but it is safe, efficient, and features a high heat transfer efficiency. The latter, on the other hand, needs storage tanks; it uses steam to heat the water directly, which poses some risks, and its heat transfer efficiency is not high – moreover, it results in waste of thermal energy. It’s best to decide based on the specific conditions of one’s own facility.
