Experts, per the regulations: Blast disc safety devices cannot be used alone in situations where the toxicity of the medium is extremely high, highly hazardous, or where there is a risk of explosion, such as with liquefied petroleum gas; in such cases, they can be used in combination with safety valves. Why?
Because when the rupture disc breaks, all the material in the tank area is released, which poses a significant risk. Safety valves have a function of returning to their original position, allowing them to prevent the accident from spreading further; therefore, they are not used alone
When used in series, if the burst disc fails, there will be no way to stop the flow; by installing a safety relief valve in series, it is possible to shut off the flow after necessary pressure release
The burst disc is a one-time use pressure relief component, whereas a safety valve can return to its original position after releasing pressure up to a certain level, thereby preventing further leakage of materials or harmful substances; this indirectly reduces the risks associated with accidents
If the blast disc explodes, it really has exploded
