Chloromethane, also known as methyl chloride, is a colorless, easily liquefiable gas that is stored under pressure in steel cylinders. It belongs to organic halides. Slightly soluble in water, readily soluble in chloroform, ether, ethanol, and propanone. Flammable, explosive, moderate hazard (toxicity hazard index 43). Non-corrosive. At high temperatures (above 400°C) and under strong light, methanol and hydrochloric acid react with water to produce phosgene when heated or exposed to flames – based on their properties, processing methods, and equipment, fire and poison prevention measures must be taken into account
