May I ask if an asphalt tank can be installed underground inside a factory building? If not, which standards and regulations are violated?
Firstly, it is preferred to have all storage tanks installed in an open area; they can only be buried when there are special requirements. Refer to clause 4.2.1 of the standard SHT3007-2014, Design Code for Tank Areas in Petrochemical Storage and Transportation Systems – it explains this clearly. Second, if one really wants to bury it, there is a limit on capacity – you can’t do as much as you want. Looking at Note 6 in Table 4.2.1 of the building codes as well as the subsequent explanations, I recall that for Classes A, B, and C, a single buried tank can have a maximum capacity of 50 cubic meters, while an entire area containing buried tanks can have a maximum capacity of 200 cubic meters. Third, buried storage tanks are difficult to maintain and inspect. Therefore, the designers prefer an open-air layout.
In accordance with Note 6 of Code for Building Design 4.2.1, for horizontal tanks storing Class A, B, and C liquids that are buried directly underground, when the capacity of a single tank is not more than 50 m3 and the total capacity is not more than 200 m3, the fire separation distance from buildings can be reduced by 50% as specified in this table. Does it mean that the total capacity being less than 200 cubic meters and being located within the workshop implies a distance of 6 meters between the asphalt tank and the interior walls of the workshop?
Interior wall of the workshop? You put the tank area inside the workshop; tank areas are always installed outdoors – I’ve never heard of them being placed indoors. The intermediate storage tank can be placed indoors, but its capacity must be less than 5 tons, and it must be separated from other rooms. In addition to complying with building codes, it is also necessary to adhere to GB50160, the petrochemical regulations; these cannot be simply included arbitrarily, otherwise it will be impossible to pass the reviews by various departments such as those responsible for fire safety and security.
