Vacuum extraction process at the top of the vacuum distillation tower

Gentlemen, there is a question that I still haven’t managed to figure out; I would appreciate it if you could give me some guidance: When evacuating the pressure relief tower, water ring vacuum pumps are used – why does the feed inlet of the return tank need to be located at the bottom of the tank? Are there any considerations?
The main purpose of this is to reduce liquid carried in the exhaust gas. When evacuating, the gas flow velocity is relatively high; if no device is used, a large amount of liquid droplets can be carried away. Personally, I prefer to use a demister, as it theoretically provides better results!
I see, so is it a defoamer that is added at the gas outlet? Will it increase the pressure loss in the pipeline? How are the mesh size and the number of layers of the demister screen determined? Thank you very much for your reply.
