Is the maximum mass of the equipment the same as the weight with water filled?
The maximum weight is the weight of the device itself plus the weight of the attachments, while the weight with water filled is the weight when the device is filled with water for a hydrostatic test
The weight of the device itself is called \"empty weight\", while the weight of the device together with its attachments is called \"gross mass\"
One is the weight of its own mass, and the other is the weight of its own mass plus the weight of the water.
We generally design three weights: the device’s own weight, the weight of the water filled in it, and the weight associated with operation. It’s not really clear what this maximum mass (weight) is.
According to the official standard \"TCED 41002-2012 Technical Requirements for Chemical Equipment Drawings\" (2012 edition), only the maximum mass of the equipment is specified; there is no concept of weight when the equipment is filled with water. . It’s clearly stated that the maximum mass refers to the highest weight used during the hydraulic test. However, if a medium with a higher specific gravity than water is used in operating this equipment, such as a salt solution, then the maximum mass is the weight associated with using that medium. . . If the density of the medium used during equipment operation is greater than that of water (when the tank is completely filled), then the operating weight at that time is the maximum mass.
