1. I would like to ask the experts here: Our company uses radar level gauges for monitoring the liquid level in the steam condensate trays. The antenna of these gauges malfunctions as soon as it gets wet, which affects their functionality. Previously, we used float-type level gauges, but the floats got stuck when the temperature rose... Do you have any good suggestions regarding the selection of level gauges? 2. Currently, we use self-priming tanks to draw water out of the steam condensate trays, with centrifugal pumps being used for draining the water. This setup is facing a problem: sometimes, when the pump is started, the pressure behind it doesn’t increase, and it’s necessary to open the exhaust valve to release air before the water can be drained. What is the reason for this?
1. For the selection of the level gauge, a differential pressure level gauge should be used; either single or double flange versions are acceptable, as long as the density of the medium does not vary much and the accuracy remains satisfactory. 2. The pump needs to be vented in order to maintain pressure; this indicates that either the pump is not appropriately selected or the system’s net positive suction head is insufficient (the tank is not high enough). If it is a tank that operates at atmospheric pressure, it is recommended to switch to a system that operates under pressure in order to achieve a higher net positive suction head
Operated in a sealed environment; negative pressure was generated when the pump pumped? Since neither float-type nor radar-based level gauges are suitable, choose a magnetic flip-type gauge with remote transmission capability
A level gauge should not be the only device used; at least two types of sensors, such as a radar sensor or a local flip-type gauge, are necessary. Check whether your pump’s check valve is functioning properly, and also verify whether the pump’s installation height is above the liquid level in the tank

1. The float level gauge gets stuck when the temperature is high; this may be caused by the expansion of the float’s volume as a result of the rising temperature. It is recommended to use a differential pressure level gauge. 2.
