Regarding stopping the expander

When shutting down the expander, is it better to close the emergency shut-off valve, or to close the globe valve slowly? Why?
An emergency stop while the rotor is rotating at high speed can cause drastic changes in the forces acting on the rotor’s bearings, which may lead to damage to these bearings or affect their service life. It also includes air flow impacts from other areas. For reference.
I don’t understand the process; I need to learn it*. Can the emergency shut-off valve be operated arbitrarily? Isn’t it connected to the SIS system?
