In general engineering projects, PE pipes are rated at 1 MPa, while the steel flanges we purchase these days are generally rated at 1.6 MPa. Can such steel flanges be connected to the flanges of PE pipe belts?
The connection mainly depends on the center distance between the screws. I specialize in PE electrofusion flanges; what size are your PE pipes? Flanges below 150, type 1 and 1.6, are universal and can be connected to each other.

A PE flange with a pressure rating of 1.0 MPa can be manufactured to match the dimensions of a steel flange with a pressure rating of 1.6 MPa, on a custom basis. We usually write it as similar to HG20592; HG20592 is the standard for steel flanges. The requirements regarding the thickness and manufacturing of PE flanges are in accordance with the corresponding non-metallic flange standards; primarily, the data related to the bolt holes are processed based on the dimensions of steel flanges.
It depends on the standards; it’s not just the pressure rating that matters. There are three parameters to consider within the standards: first, the diameter of the circle centered on the bolt hole, that is, the hole spacing – this spacing needs to be accurate. Next is the type of sealing surface; for PE types, it is usually a flat surface. There are also electrofused types as well as steel flanges with loose sleeves, either half-open or integral in design. Another parameter is the pressure rating.
The bolt hole spacing on large plastic flanges is smaller than that on steel flanges of the same grade; therefore, a plastic flange rated at 1 MPa might be compatible with a steel flange rated at 1.6 MPa.
