I’m preparing to inspect a batch of insulation material, but I’m not sure whether the thickness measurement is accurate. At first, I tried to use a tape measure to determine the thickness of the insulation when it was laid flat, only to find that it was at least 20% thicker than the required thickness. Later, I checked GBT5480, which states that the thickness should be measured using a pin-type thickness gauge or a similar device. I’d like to ask experts: is there a significant difference between the results obtained using these two measurement methods? Since I don’t have such instruments, I’m hoping someone knows the answer. Take a look first – what tests are specified on their factory certification?
This thing can be deformed, right? If the thickness is too precise, it might not be very useful; something around that level will do. If performance is really important, thermal insulation tests can be conducted

There are density requirements; if the density is calculated based on the specifications we proposed, it will meet those requirements. However, we require a thickness of 50 mm, while the actual thickness of the material upon delivery is up to 80 mm when measured with a tape measure in its natural state. If the density is calculated based on this 80 mm thickness, it will be significantly lower, giving the impression that the material is a bit fluffy and not compacted properly.
At first, when I was checking the goods, I thought the same thing, but then I realized it wasn’t right – we have specific density requirements. Calculating the density based on the thickness in its fluffy state doesn’t meet our standards; the tolerance for this thickness is required to be less than 10 mm. What I don’t understand is how to measure the insulation thickness accurately. I found that the standard requires the use of a thickness gauge and a pin-type thickness meter, but we don’t have those tools
The material specified as 50 has been used to make something with a specification of 80; how can the problem be solved if the spacing between pipes is not sufficient for construction?
