I recently came across a project in which the original design called for two safety valves to be installed on the gas outlet pipe of one piece of equipment. Working pressure is 14 MPa, and the temperature is around 180°C. Although the medium is in the gas phase, it reacts easily and crystallizes. To prevent blockages, a purge steam line is installed behind the safety valve, and it is required that steam purging be kept on during normal operation. These two safety valves are designed to be installed vertically, but due to factors such as the site location, the pipelines ahead of and behind the safety valves have to make several bends. If the safety valve can be installed horizontally, the inlet and outlet pipes almost do not need to be bent, resulting in a simple and aesthetically pleasing pipe layout; this also helps to minimize the accumulation of medium and the risk of blockages caused by crystallization. However, during communication with the designer, the designer replied that the safety valve cannot be installed horizontally. I’ve come to ask the experts: can a safety valve like this be installed horizontally?
Safety valves come in various types; generally, common safety valves are sufficient as long as they operate within the conditions permitted by the process. There are also those used in pressure relief valves. It can be installed horizontally. It mainly depends on the process requirements. For reference.
If it is a weight-type type, it definitely cannot be installed horizontally. Is it a spring-loaded safety valve? When installed horizontally, is it necessary to consider the effect of gravity on the spring? Could gravity affect the spring’s return to its original position after the safety valve opens, thereby causing leakage?
It cannot be installed horizontally; there are relevant regulations for this.
Could you please mention the standard name or standard number?
Spring-type ones can’t be installed horizontally, right?
First, talk about the safety features, and then discuss the aesthetic design
Is it the poor sealing when considering the horizontal position?
