Drilling of the check valve

The pump for the DN250 inlet and outlet pipes is quite compact, and the outlet shut-off valve is located too high, making it difficult to operate. It is recommended in the design to connect the cut-off valve and the check valve directly, and to drill holes in the check valve body in order to reduce the height of the outlet cut-off valve. For some reason, it was not adopted.
Could someone think of a trick like drilling holes in the valve body? It was right not to adopt it
