Halogenated hydrocarbons are not non-methane hydrocarbons, because they are not hydrocarbons per se; rather, they are halogenated hydrocarbons, which are derivatives of hydrocarbons in which one or more hydrogen atoms have been replaced by halogen atoms. It’s just like the pickled vegetables you eat – it’s not raw radish, but pickled radish, because salt is contained in it; pure radish doesn’t contain salt.
