The liquid level height of the water seal can be directly converted into the pressure of the liquid column, which is generated by gravity. For every 10 mm increase in liquid level, 1 millibar of pressure (1 mbar) is generated at the bottom. Therefore, if the liquid level in the water seal tank is 500mm–1000mm, this will correspond to a pressure of 50 mbar–100 mbar (or, converted to standard atmospheres, 0.05–0.1 atmosphere). For low-pressure gas to be discharged into a flare, the pressure required must be at least higher than the pressure generated by this water seal tank, that is, it needs to be greater than 50 mbar–100 mbar. This is necessary to generate sufficient pressure to push the gas out from the bottom of the tank.
