Public notice prior to approval for the Shaanxi Weihe Coal Chemical Project. Shaanxi Weihe Coal Chemical Group Co., Ltd. has recently issued a public notice prior to approval regarding the environmental impact assessment report for the pilot-scale production of methyl acetate through dimethyl ether carbonylation. This project aims to build a pilot plant with an annual capacity of 10,000 tons for the carbonylation of dimethyl ether to produce methyl acetate, by reducing the production capacity of the existing methanol unit in Phase II expansion by 9,500 tons per year; utilizing the excess syngas from the methanol washing process of the Phase II expansion project, as well as the dimethyl ether produced by the expansion of the existing 2×50,000 tons per year dimethyl ether plants, as raw materials. It mainly includes raw material pretreatment and the distillation unit for methyl acetate synthesis. The project provides data for the subsequent transformation of the Binzhou 300,000 tons/year ethylene glycol plant into a 450,000 tons/year ethanol plant, as well as for its long-term operation. While reducing the risks associated with corporate investment decisions, it enables the most efficient utilization of existing resources to create an integrated industrial chain spanning upstream and downstream processes, and it also provides technical support for the future transformation of coal-based ethylene glycol production facilities. Pilot production utilizes technology from the Southwest Chemical Research Institute.
