Happy May Day 2024! Safety first. Let’s give praise and support to the achievements made in China’s chemical engineering technology and equipment. **********************【Ten Years of Progress in Chemical Engineering Equipment】Regular updates and summaries are available; feel free to join the discussions at https://bbs.hcbbs.com/thread-3576046-1-1.html (Source: Haichuan Chemical Engineering Forum) ***************** Coal-to-natural gas technology: Beijing Petroleum Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd.’s “100,000 tons/year electronic-grade ethanol production technology package” has been approved. May 17, 2024 – On May 15th, the “100,000 tons/year electronic-grade ethanol production technology package” developed by Beijing Petroleum Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. was approved. The conference invited 5 industry experts to form an evaluation committee for on-site assessment. Cao Jian, Deputy General Manager and Chief Engineer of Beiyou Engineering Company, attended the appraisal meeting, which was chaired by Liu Hanying, Assistant to the General Manager. The experts present first listened to the presentation of the project team on its achievements. After questioning and discussion, the evaluation committee concluded that this technological process was reliable and advanced, representing a first in China; its overall technical level was at the international advanced stage. They agreed to approve the evaluation of this scientific and technological achievement and recommended accelerating the industrial application of this technology. “The \"100,000 tons/year electronic-grade ethanol complete technology package\" uses crude ethanol as raw material to produce electronic-grade ethanol, employing a process that combines drying, adsorption, and distillation separation, thereby offering advantages such as a short production process, low energy consumption, and high product purity. While improving the specifications of electronic-grade ethanol products, it enables full utilization of heat, **reducing the energy consumption of the process and thus lowering the production costs associated with ethanol purification. It is reported that the electronic-grade ethanol required in current carbonate processes is currently produced from grain-based ethanol, which results in high costs and poses a problem of competing with food production for grain resources. In contrast, the technology included in this process package uses coal-based ethanol as a raw material, resulting in lower costs; it also provides a new route for producing electronic-grade ethanol, thereby further reducing the consumption of grain-based ethanol and ensuring a stable supply of raw materials for electrolyte solvents. Furthermore, it has also opened up new industrial chains for coal-based ethanol, offering broad application prospects. As early as 2012, Beiyou Engineering collaborated with the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to work together on the development of a complete technological process for producing ethanol via dimethyl ether carbonylation and hydrogenation (DMTE). A demonstration plant in Xinghua, Shaanxi, capable of producing 100,000 tons of ethanol from syngas per year, has been built. Next is the Yushen Energy Chemicals Company’s project to produce 500,000 tons of coal-based ethanol per year. The company has also successfully designed and constructed a project at Henan Liyuan Coal Coking Group Co., Ltd. for the production of 200,000 tons per year of ethanol from coker gas, thereby realizing the practical application of DMTE technology in the efficient utilization of industrial waste gases.
