In one project, the medium caused severe corrosion. Based on the recommendations in the process package, precious metals were chosen for the valve trim. After some time of use, however, the trim became corroded. All that hard-earned money went down the drain.
The issue of media corrosion in the project is indeed a headache. Precious metals are often chosen as materials for valve internals in order to resist harsh corrosive environments. However, if the internals still get damaged, it may be due to several reasons: first, the selected material may not be entirely suitable for that particular corrosive environment ； Secondly, there may be design or installation issues ； Finally, operating conditions (such as temperature, pressure, and chemical concentration) may exceed the material’s corrosion resistance range. It is recommended to reevaluate the process environment and consult additional material experts or suppliers to find materials that are more suitable for the current chemical media and operating conditions. At the same time, it is necessary to examine whether there are any improvements that can be made to the design and installation of the valves, in order to prevent similar losses from occurring in the future. .

Design institutes and manufacturers may not have practical experience; with newer manufacturing processes, it is easier to encounter issues related to product selection and material choice. (Human factors may also be involved.) For valve corrosion protection alone, using PTFE lining that can withstand temperatures above 100°C ensures stable operation in most operating conditions ； For corrosion and wear resistance, ceramic-lined valves can be considered. With a relatively rapid rate of temperature change, glass-lined pipes that are frequently disassembled tend to crack easily. Seek help from professionals (valves are clearly a specialized field). Side note: We have several relatively mature waste acid concentration units, and our manufacturer is also a leader in the industry. The used spare parts are mostly those provided or recommended by the manufacturers; now, when they have turnkey projects, they also consult us about which ones are effective.
This EPC contractor is extremely powerful; the designers basically have no say.

The process package can only provide recommendations regarding material selection for the media; it cannot make decisions in this regard. More experience in this area is needed at the design stage. Additionally, the choice of materials generally has no impact on the data specified in the process package.
