The power plant was developed and operated under the leadership of State Grid Jilin Electric Power Co., Ltd.; technical support was provided by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics); and Dalian Rongke Energy Storage Technology Development Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Rongke Energy Storage) participated in its construction. The power plant is located in Shuizi Town, Qian’an County, Songyuan City, Jilin Province, with an installed capacity of 100MW/400MWh and a total investment of 1.222 billion yuan. The vanadium redox flow battery energy storage technology used in power stations boasts advantages such as high safety, long service life, long peak-shaving duration, recyclable electrolyte, and environmental friendliness, making it highly promising for use in large-scale energy storage applications. This power plant represents an active exploration of shared energy storage. Once in operation, it will provide storage capacity for 13 new energy power generation companies in Jilin Province. It not only helps to address the storage needs of these power generation companies but also takes advantage of the significant peak-shaving capabilities of large-scale energy storage systems, thereby reducing the investment burden on these companies regarding the construction of their own storage facilities. According to calculations, this power plant is expected to consume approximately 300 million kWh of new energy electricity per year. In recent years, the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics has made breakthroughs in a series of key technologies, including those related to key materials for the next generation of vanadium-based flow batteries and high-power-density stacks, which has led to a significant reduction in battery costs. It has also worked closely with Rongke Energy Storage to carry out more than 20 demonstration projects, including the world’s first 100MW/400MWh class flow battery energy storage system for peak-shaving purposes. These efforts have promoted the use of vanadium-based flow batteries in various fields such as power generation, power transmission and distribution, and end-user applications, while also driving the development of related industrial chains. They provide important technical support for China’s energy structure adjustment and the achievement of its \"dual carbon\" goals.
