The first phase of CNOOC Tianjin New Materials Base project commenced construction, with the aim of building a production line for heavy oil catalytic conversion catalysts (DPC) with an annual capacity of 5,000 tons. On March 6, 2025, the first phase of this project, operated by CNOOC Tianjin Chemical Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as the New Materials Base project), officially started construction in the Nangang Industrial Zone of Tianjin Economic Development Zone, representing yet another successful achievement by the development zone in serving CNOOC Group. The new materials base project is the third project undertaken by CNOOC Energy Development Co., Ltd. in the Nangang Industrial Zone. Covering an area of approximately 167,000 square meters, the first phase of construction involves an investment of 290 million yuan; it focuses on building a production line for heavy oil catalytic conversion catalysts (DPC) with an annual capacity of 5,000 tons. This project marks the successful transition of CNOOC Tianjin Research Institute’s independent R&D achievements in the field of chemical new materials into the industrialization stage. CNOOC Tianjin Institute is accelerating the innovation and transformation of scientific research achievements in the field of chemical new materials. It has already begun working on the planning for Phase 2 and Phase 3 projects related to these new materials in the Nangang Industrial Zone, with the goal of turning Nangang into a hub for the transformation of achievements in chemical new materials. This project represents not only a significant breakthrough in the industrialization of research achievements by CNOOC Tianjin Research Institute, but it is also another important achievement in the deepening strategic cooperation between Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area and CNOOC Group, as well as in promoting the development of the regional chemical and new materials industry cluster. Once the project is put into operation, it will establish an innovative production system for new refining and chemical materials with characteristics unique to CNOOC, take on the task of industrializing independent research achievements in the field of new materials, and effectively drive the transformation and upgrading of the refining and chemical industry. CNOOC Tianjin Chemical Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd. is a professional research institution affiliated with CNOOC Energy Development Co., Ltd., which in turn is a subsidiary of CNOOC Group’s professional technical services division. In recent years, in accordance with the requirements of CNOOC, this unit has focused on developing high-quality productive forces through \"new technologies, new manufacturing methods, new services, and new business models.\" It has actively seized the significant historical opportunities presented by emerging industries such as chemical new materials, and has independently developed a number of patented technologies for the catalytic conversion of heavy oil. More patented technologies will be put into use at Nangang in the future.
