Key facilities for Shaanxi Coal Group Yulin Chemical’s CCS 400,000 tons/year pilot project were handed over on March 28, 2025. On March 20, the related systems for Well Yu Tan 1, part of Shaanxi Coal Group Yulin Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd.’s CCS demonstration project – the 400,000 tons/year pilot project – were successfully completed, laying a solid foundation for the CO₂ injection tests scheduled for March 31. Located in the Qingshui Industrial Park in Dabaochang, Shenmu, Yulin City, this project will capture 100,000 tons per year of high-purity CO₂ and 300,000 tons per year of low-purity CO₂ from the purification units of Shaanxi Coal Yulin Chemical’s 1.8 million tons per year ethylene glycol production facility. After compression and drying, these gases will be injected into wells No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 of Yucarbon for permanent sequestration. By capturing, compressing, drying, and sequestering carbon dioxide, this project aims to explore pathways for green and low-carbon development and to promote the sustainable transformation of the coal chemical industry. The company was responsible for constructing the 400,000 tons per year CO₂ capture unit for this project, as well as the pipeline transportation systems and two sets of CO₂ storage units. It also handled the construction of supporting facilities such as substation buildings, cabinet rooms, CO₂ drying units, and compressor houses. This work covered various fields including process pipelines, electrical systems, instrumentation, telecommunications, fire protection, HVAC systems, water supply and drainage, civil engineering structures, and roads. The implementation of this project will not only help reduce carbon dioxide emissions, but it will also provide valuable experience in the field of CO2 sequestration in saline aquifers in China, helping to establish it as the leading hub for such technologies in the country. As a key initiative by Shaanxi Coal Group in pursuing green and low-carbon development in the coal chemical industry, the CCS demonstration project plays a vital role in facilitating the sustainable transformation of this sector and helping to achieve the \"dual carbon\" goals.
