Recently, Braskem of Brazil announced that its newly developed sugarcane-based ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) grade, “I’m green EVA 7870S”, has been put into commercial production. Made from 100% sugarcane ethanol, this product has a carbon footprint 65% lower than that of traditional petroleum-based EVA, making it the world’s first photovoltaic-grade bio-based EVA material to obtain ISCC PLUS certification. According to the information provided, the “I’m green EVA 7870S” has a bio-based carbon content of 70%; each ton of this product helps reduce 3 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, which is equivalent to the carbon-sequestration capacity of 160 mature trees. While enabling a low-carbon transformation across the entire life cycle, this bio-based EVA material retains the excellent optical properties and resistance to heat and moisture aging of traditional EVA. The photovoltaic encapsulation films made from it have a light transmittance of >91.5%, and they exhibit minimal power degradation even after being subjected to heat and moisture aging tests for over 3000 hours
