The 16th Zhuang Changgong and Wu Yunchu Award for Advancement in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering was presented on June 20. The award ceremony, themed \"Innovation-Driven Development for a Green Future,\" along with a forum on the high-quality development of chemistry and chemical engineering, was held at the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Academician Ding Kuiling, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Academician Bao Xinhé, former President of the University of Science and Technology of China; Han Zhiqiang, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology; Zhai Jinguo, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission; Academician Zhu Weihong, Vice President of East China University of Science and Technology; Hu Jinbo, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Liu Wenjie, Vice President of Shanghai Huayi Group Co., Ltd.; Zhu Xinyuan, President of Shanghai University; Wang Congchun, Vice President of Shanghai University; Chen Yao, President of the Shanghai Society of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, along with representatives from member institutions of the society; as well as some past recipients of the Zhuang Wu Award and representatives from related associations, gathered together to discuss in depth the paths for high-quality development in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering. The list of winners of this year’s Zhuang Changgong and Wu Yunchu Award for Advances in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering was announced on site: the main prize for the Zhuang Changgong Award was awarded to Liu Wen from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry and Zhu Xinyuan from Shanghai University of Science and Technology ； The winners of the main prize in the Wu Yunchu Award are Liu Wenjie from Sinopec (Shanghai) Research Institute of Petrochemicals Co., Ltd. and Shang Zhaocong from Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. In addition, 10 people including Wan Ying and Ning Zhijun received nomination awards; Zhang Ke and Zhou Guoliang were awarded education awards, while 7 people including Zuo Zhiwei and Li Wei received youth awards. It is worth noting that the addition of new Youth Awards and Education Awards this year further expands the scope covered by these awards. During the award presentation session, Zhu Xinyuan, recipient of the Zhuang Changgong Award, shared his practical experience in integrating research and education, emphasizing the role of universities in cultivating innovative talents ； Zhang Ke, the recipient of the Education Award from Shanghai Jiao Tong University High School, explored pathways for cultivating future talent in chemistry and chemical engineering from the perspective of basic education, calling for the establishment of a comprehensive educational system. According to statistics, 42 of the past winners have received support from projects funded by the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, accounting for 70% of the total number of winners ； 40 people have received Shanghai science and technology awards, accounting for 66% of the total number of awardees. These achievements also provide strong support for the development of strategic emerging industries such as high-end manufacturing, new energy, and biomedicine. At the same time, the “Zhuang Changgong and Wu Yunchu Award for Advancement in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering” has also become a cradle for talent in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering in Shanghai. Following the award ceremony, Academicians Ding Kuiling and Bao Xinhe delivered academic lectures titled \"Synthetic Science Integrating Chemistry and Biology\" and \"Opportunities and Challenges of Chemistry in Future Energy Systems\", respectively. The presentations by the two academicians gradually unfolded a vision related to \"green chemistry\" and \"intelligent synthesis.\" From a high-level perspective, they not only depicted an exciting technological landscape at the molecular level but also placed it within the broader context of the \"dual carbon\" goals, providing profound theoretical insights and practical guidance for the green transformation of the entire industry. It is reported that this award is presented every two years, with two categories: the \"Zhuang Changgong Award\" and the \"Wu Yunchu Award\", designed to honor young and middle-aged scientists and engineers who have made outstanding achievements in basic theoretical research as well as applied research. Since the first edition was held in 1995, a total of 16 evaluation events have taken place by 2025.
